Alvin E. Aikens, 71

Alvin E. Aikens, 71, of 359 South Mountain Road, Emporium, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on January 10, 1940 in Clymer, a son of the late Albert F. and Margaret T. Janosko Aikens.
On June 3, 1961 he married Barbara M. Emery in Emporium.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a Jack of all Trades who could fix just about anything, he was also an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved to go “salvaging”.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Barbara M. Aikens, Emporium, three sons, Alvin “Rocky” (Christie) Aikens, Emporium, Timothy (Lisa) Aikens, Southport, NC, Jonathan Aikens, Emporium, four daughters, Bambi (John) Teates, Lisa (Ron) Main, Valerie Gaberseck, all of Emporium, Theresa (Ben) Hauber, Raleigh, NC, two brothers, Edward (Audrey) Aikens, Sr., Clymer, Richard, (Eileen) Aikens, Emporium, one sister, Dorothy Jane Reed, Emporium, twenty one grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one brother, Albert Aikens, one grandson, Daniel Best Aikens, one son-in-law, Paul Gaberseck and one nephew, Edward Aikens, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Emporium on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at which time a Memorial Service will be held with the Rev. James Eastman, officiating.
Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.
