L. Maxwell "Max" Narby, 76, of 301 S. Maple St., Emporium, died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Tuesday (January 11, 2011) morning.
He was born July 31, 1934 in St. Marys a son of the late Herbert J. "Max" and Lucille Brown Narby. On June 14, 1958 in St. Mark Church He married Sharon Rose Narby, who Survives.
Mr. Narby was a Korean War Veteran. He graduated from Clarion University in 1960. He was a Social Studies Teacher at Cameron County High School from 1960 - 1990. He helped Revitalized the Cameron County School District Student Council in the mid 1970's. He was twice a finalist for the Pa Teacher of the year and served as a Junior High Football coach several years. He was Presented the 1884 George Washington Honor Medal for Excellence in Education. He was a Lifetime member of the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department with 58 years of service, a Lifetime member of St. Marks Roman Catholic Church and served as a Past Erie Diocesan President of the Blue Army. He was a Member of the American Legion, received the Americanism Award from the American Legion, and the Distinguished Service Award from the PA Department of Military Affairs. He Coordinated the Cameron County Earth Day Activities. He was a Cameron County Commissioner for a term from 1984-1988, Jaycee Educator of the year in 1984, served on Emporium Borough Council from January 2006 to present and Chairman of the powerful Fire and Safety Committee. He was a Freedom Foundation Recipient at Valley Forge, and the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor recipient on 5/1/1988. He was a Past Director of Veterans Affairs in Cameron County, Founder of the Cameron County 9-11 Tribute, and Founder of Freedom week where he would bring Nationally known Hero's to Cameron County. He Battled against Drug and Alcohol abuse from the local to Federal Level. Max Narby's favorite quote " I do not care where you have been, I only care where you going from this day forward"

Visitation with Video Tribute will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Friday from 4 - 8 PM. The Emporium Fire department will meet at 6 PM and the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church in Emporium on Saturday (January 15, 2011) at 12:30 PM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant. A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.
Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium.
Visitation with Video Tribute will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Friday from 4 - 8 PM. The Emporium Fire Department will meet at 6 PM followed by the American Legion Service at 6:15 PM and the Rosary will be recited at 7:45 PM.
