Don't Miss the 2024 Cameron County Historical Society Spring Event

Rowan Crisp, Educator for the Lumber Heritage Region is going to be the speaker at the 2024 Cameron County Historical Society Spring Event.

Mark your calendars now for Saturday April 27, 2024 at the VFW 2:00 PM.
Rowan grew up in Cameron County and loves everything about the history of the area. Rowan loves to tell everyone "I actually grew up in a historic building built by the CCC's at the Sizerville Park ."

The structure was once the Captains quarters and It still exists today with exception of alterations to today's standards park employees that live there today.

Rowan jumped at the chance to come and even stopped by our History Center on Greenwood Street to review our treasure trove of historical goodies and to prepare for our upcoming event she was overwhelmed. She said "I'll be back, I could spend weeks here going through all this amazing stuff."

She told us "I want to cover the lumbering and tannery industries and the CCC's of course but you have so much here it's hard to decide." She has reviewed many of our photos in her preparation and will have a slide show of some she selected.

Rowan is going to have on display some of the "Wood in Glass Imagines" created by Wm. T. Clarke.

Back in 1974 these glass imagines thought to be just windowpanes, were found in wooden crates on a dirt floor in a damp, gloomy corner of a tool shed south of Rochester New York. The folks who were rummaging did not seem interested nor wanted them accept one. Lois Barden, who felt that they may have importance took them home and stored them for thirty years at her family cattle farm. While taking a digital photography class Lois shared her find with her instructor who was amazed of this discovery.

Through painstakingly restoration it was discovered that the unknown photographs were of logging camps close by Galeton and Port Allegany during 1897-1898. Through extensive research it was discovered that they were made by photographer William T. Clarke who once lived in McKean and Potter counties who travelled the area taking pictures. Through further research it was discovered that Lois's husband Bob was a distant relative and that Bob's grandma lived near where the discovery of images was made. These are something you don't want to miss.

Rowan is excited about this event concerning our local history as we are sure you will be.
See you on Saturday April 27, at 2 PM VFW.
 Refreshments will be available.
 General Public Welcome!

Endless Mountain Myofascial Release ~ Treatments offered in Cameron County

Endless Mountains Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release treatments are now offered in Cameron County by Christian Clancy, LMT aka Myofascial Release Therapist

Please reach out to Christian with your questions via Facebook, email @ endlessmountainsmfr@gmail.com or message her via the listed cell phone on her FB page.
Client testimonials posted on her Facebook page.

Gift certificates are also available!

What is Myofascial Release?

"Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)

The use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

Hands-On Treatment Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia."

Phyllis Audrey (Price) Greene

Phyllis Audrey (Price) Greene, 90, of Haymarket, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2024 at her home in Haymarket, Virginia, surrounded by family and loved ones. Phyllis was the daughter of David J. and Carrie (Hill) Price, born on December 26, 1933, in Sagamore, Pennsylvania.

Phyllis was a woman who lived life with unbridled enthusiasm and a passion for fine jewelry and clothing. She strutted through life in high heels with a fashion sense as sharp as her wit. With a TV remote always at arm’s reach, she could out-shop anyone from QVC and HSN in a heartbeat.

She was known fondly for her endless purse collection filled with mints to savor life’s sweetness and original sayisms. Her quick responses and sharp sense of humor kept everyone on their toes, and her daily lunch outings were the highlight of her day – leaving no geography uncovered in search of the best delicacies.

Most importantly, Phyllis had an unwavering faith and love for her Lord Jesus Christ. As the matriarch of the family, she was a fierce prayer warrior. She was always there for her family, lending support and giving sound scriptural advice.

Phyllis lived her life to the fullest, leaving a legacy of laughter, style, and faith. May her spirit shine brightly in our hearts, reminding us to savor every moment just as she did.

Surviving are three children: her son David J. and wife Laura of Emporium, Pennsylvania; her son, Douglas L. and wife Dawn of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and her daughter Carrie L. (Greene) and husband Skip Powers of Haymarket, Virginia; seven granddaughters Christie, Kellie, Alicia, Audrie, Ashlie, Patricia, and Natalie; and 13 great-grandchildren: Baylie, Judah, Danillio, Kiera, Mia, Darian, Colin, Renee, Vivienne, Noelle, Liam, Quinn and Cross.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Clifford J. Greene, in 2018; four brothers, David, Mac, Calvin and William; five sisters, Edna, Arveda, Helen, Winifred and Mildred; and great-grandson Luciano.

The family will receive visitors Friday, March 22 nd from 2- 4 p.m. and 6- 8 p.m. at the Rairigh- Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Clymer (655 Franklin Street. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday March 23 rd from 11 a.m. until noon, the time of her funeral service at the Clymer Presbyterian Church in Clymer. Rev. Dr. Douglas Greene officiating.

Interment and a graveside service will follow at Ruffner Cemetery in Tanoma, and a reception to follow at the Clymer Presbyterian Church.

Those who wish to remember Phyllis may make donations in her memory to the Anchor Christian Ministries. For online donations use Anchorcmva.org or checks can be sent to 101 Jousting Court Fredericksburg, VA 22406.
