click on photo to enlarge view

A workshop, Teaching About Green Jobs with Project Learning Tree, will be held on Wednesday, August 16th as part of Seneca Highlands IU9 Summer Curriculum Institute. Please share this information with anyone you think may be interested in teaching high school and college students about outdoor careers.

Green Jobs Workshop at Seneca Highlands IU9

Educators, discover new techniques for teaching your students about some of the most exciting and perhaps greenest careers in Pennsylvania – jobs that promote the health of our forests and our planet while providing sustainably produced forest and wood products we use every day.

On Wednesday, August 16th, the Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group and Pennsylvania State Parks, will present “Teaching About Green Jobs with Project Learning Tree” educator workshop open to all formal and non-formal educators who work with students ages 12-25.

Project Learning Tree (PLT), an award-winning environmental education program, has a new resource for helping learners explore green careers in forestry and conservation. Green Jobs: Exploring Forest Careers is designed for adults working with youth in settings ranging from community youth programs to school classrooms.

Cost $20 per person. Each participant receives the new PLT Green Jobs educator guide (value $25), an opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations of sample lessons, an introduction to other PLT curricula, plus a free lunch!

6.0 Act 48 hours are available for classroom teachers.

This workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, at Seneca Highlands IU, 119 Mechanic St., Smethport, PA 16749.

Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, August 9th. Register online at https://forms.gle/GreenJobsWorkshop

If you have any questions about the Green Jobs curriculum see attached information or contact me, klott@pa.gov or 717-787-2316.

If you have questions about the Summer Institute or need help with registration, contact Cindy Murphy at Seneca Highlands IU9, 814-887-5512 ext. 121, csmurphy@iu9.org

Peno's Bait Shop Remains Open

Peno's Bait Shop

SO some good NEWS! We are staying open for the time being! due to someone not buying all our inventory like they were going to (the whole lot or a good bite of it) we are staying OPEN for a while till we get rid of it all or find someone to buy ALL the inventory. And will be open next spring most likely. BAD news cant retire as soon as we would have liked to. SO the bait shop lady will be here a tad bit longer.
Give them a call for their location, (814) 546-2095.
I believe they are located near the bottom of Wykoff Run but I am not positive.

Peekaboo Sunflower Paint & Sip

Peekaboo Sunflower Paint & Sip

Join me at Sarah Jane’s Art Studio (5 East 4th St, Emporium, PA) to learn to paint your own version of this 16”x20” Peekaboo Sunflower.
Saturday, August 19th from 6-8 pm

The canvases will already be prepped with the background color and the faux frame. Paint any color sunflower you choose! No painting experience required. I teach one step at a time, but you’re allowed to go rogue if you want! 😉🌻
$40 per person. Feel free to bring your favorite adult beverages or nonalcoholic beverages and/or snacks. This class is for adults only. Due to the problem with no-shows and the extensive amount of prep work I do to the canvases and general setup, I now require the full cash, check or Venmo: @Michael-Daley-108. My Venmo has been deactivated due to someone trying to hack me. Payment no later than 24 hours prior to the event. (Payment due NLT 6pm on the 18th)
I can, however make a couple exceptions on a case-by-case basis for those who don’t live here in town or last-minute signups- depending on the amount of extra materials I have on hand. I usually prep a couple extra canvases. Excited to paint!

Tiff & Nan’s Diner Business Update
