We are so lucky to have this wonderful library in our community! 

Library reopens with new service offered 

The Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library is excited to announce that we will be reopening to the public, and thanks to a generous grant will now be able to offer Faxing Services to the public. 

After careful consideration, the Library will reopen to the public on Monday, February 1, with a strict 1 HOUR PER PATRON policy for all activities. 

Mask wearing continues to be mandatory in the building at all times. 

Additionally, thanks to a generous grant from The George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation, the library acquired a new multifunctional copy center. This center now allows the library to offer faxing services to the general public. 

Faxing costs are $2.00 for a single page fax, and $1 for each additional page being sent. The Library will not charge patrons for a fax cover sheet or a confirmation printout. 

 We can also now offer color copies for pages up to 11x17 for the same cost as our regular copies, $.25 per page. 

 “The remaining funds acquired through The George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation will go towards more improvements and upgrades to the library in the coming year,” said Librarian Yelena Kisler. “So definitely look for lots of new great things to come in 2021. We appreciate our patrons’ continued support and cooperation, and look forward to seeing all of you again.”

Lucky Luke Hunting Adventure Books Donated to School & Library

 

Shown here is Mr. Lovetts 3rd grade class with their exciting news books. 

To encourage elementary students ages 7-12 to read more, the Cameron County Family Center, Cameron County Long Beards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Cameron County Outdoor Youth Activities are donating a set of Lucky Luke Hunting Adventure books. 

The collection of 11 books by Kevin Lovegreeen a Minnesota author, speaker and outdoor enthusiast who finds great joy inspiring kids to read, write and enjoy the outdoors. Young readers follow Lucky Luke a young fictional character on amazing hunting and fishing adventures in his award winning book series, Lucky Luke’s Hunting Adventures. 

We feel these books are a perfect fit to encourage young people to pick up a book and read. Reading can be a fun and imaginative time for children (and adults), which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them.” The chapter book series include hunting for white-tailed deer, turkey, bear, elk along with other animals and fishing for different species of fish. 

The books can be found at the Woodland Elementary School and the Barbra Brown Moscato Library. Another feature of the books is students can earn Accelerated Reader (AR) points. AR is a computer-based program that schools may use to monitor reading practice and progress. Let us know what you children think of the books!

A memorial will be held at the Emporium Moose on February 13 at 1:00 to celebrate the lives of 

Virginia and Charlie Copp.

 Charles R. Copp, 86, of Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA formerly of West Creek Rd. died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Saturday (September 24, 2016) afternoon. He was born May 2, 1930 in Ansonia, Tioga County, PA a son of the late Sterry O. and Mildred Smith Copp. On December 24, 1949 in Painted Post, NY he married Virginia Matteson. 

 Virginia B. Copp, 89, formerly of Old West Creek Road in Emporium, PA, passed away on January 11, 2021 at the Guy and Mary Felt Manor. She was born May 4th, 1931 in Muncy, PA to the late Merl W. and Sarah Virginia (Heiney) Matteson. On December 24, 1949, in Painted Post NY, she married Charles R. Copp who passed away September 24, 2016.

Lane Closure at Winslow Hill

Causer to Host Veterans Services at Local Offices

BRADFORD – In an effort to ensure area veterans receive the services and support they need, Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) announced he will host a veterans service representative from the American Legion at his local offices in February.

Appointments by phone are encouraged; however, in-person appointments are also available. To protect the health and safety of veterans and staff, only one appointment will be scheduled per hour to allow for cleaning and social distancing. To avoid overlap with others, veterans should not arrive early for their appointments. At the request of the Legion representative, they also must wear a mask.

The schedule is as follows:

Coudersport office: Thursday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Coudersport office is located at 107 S. Main St. Please call 814-274-9769 to schedule an appointment.

 Goblins Chocolates offering truffles year in 4 ($7.50) or 9 ($15) count boxes. You can select milk or dark chocolate. New this year is the opportunity to purchase truffles. Orders are accepted at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce. Pick up will begin Thursday February 11 through Saturday February 13.

Two Cameron County Businesses Team up for Valentines Day Celebration

Sarah Janes Studio and Rich Valley Wines join forces to provide unique Valentine’s Day events. Sarah Janes Studio has been decorated with roses and balloons to celebrate the sweetest day of the year. On Saturday February 13 the studio will open to both families and those under 21 to enjoy music by DJ Smokin Sounds and food from 5pm-7pm. In order to comply with Covid-19 restrictions the event will be limited to 24 people. Each person will receive two cones. One will be filled with Rich Valley Wines popular charcuterie items and a second cone will be filled with dessert items perfect for chocolate dipping. If you do not wish to attend in person, organizers will provide you with a to go package. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased online at Eventbrite or at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce.

The over 21 crowd can enjoy the same treats and music plus two glasses of wine from 8pm to 11pm. Rich Valley Wines will have bottles of wine available for purchase. Tickets are $25.00 each and can be purchased at Eventbrite or at the Chamber of Commerce.

Organizers say following Covid-19 restrictions is a priority and all areas will be sanitized between the two events and utilizing individual cones of food eliminate a buffet line.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce conducting its annual membership drive. This year the board of directors held the line on the price of business/organization memberships due to the economic condition of many of the businesses due to Covid-19 mitigation requirements. The organization is now offering individual memberships for $25.00.

The chamber has not been immune from financial issues associated with Covid-19. The artisan center associated with the chamber saw its lowest revenue producing year since it opened 12 years ago, but continues to serve many organizations in the county as a location to sell fundraising items and distribute materials.

The membership campaign has been delayed due to the work load associated with Covid-19. Since March the staff has been following news conferences and keeping businesses abreast of the latest mitigation directives. The Emporium office continues to offer free cloth masks to the public and now face shields and N-95 replaceable filter masks manufactured by Caldwell Corporation.

Northern Tier Head Start and Pre-K Counts programs are now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 program year! We'll be doing things a little differently this year.

 If you are interested in an application, you should:

January Food Distribution -Cameron County Community Food Pantry

 Due to the corona virus outbreak, and operating with concern for the health of our clients, the Cameron County Food Pantry will be operating on the following schedule. The food distribution scheduled for January 27, 2021 at 1pm will be accomplished with the following changes. If you are unemployed or have had a reduction in work hours due to the corona virus, you are eligible for this food distribution. Please call Dave Malize at 814-486-1161 Ext 269 and pre-register. 

Clients from the Emporium Arms and Maple Street Apartments will receive food delivered Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 10:00 am. On Wednesday, January 27th, the regular Food Pantry distribution will be at the usual 1:00 pm time on Fourth Street in front of Northern Tier Community Action. 

South Poplar Street will be closed to Food Pantry vehicular traffic. Clients with cars are asked to stage on Fourth Street in the spaces available between Vine Street and Poplar Street. You will be directed when to pull forward to the space in front of Northern Tier to receive your box. Please be patient while we try to get everyone through as quickly as possible. A volunteer will take your name and another will place your box(es) in your car (do not get out of your car) and you can then pull out as traffic allows, allowing the next vehicle to move up. If you are not able to get in line with your car, please just drive around the block and come back. 

PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK TRAFFIC ON FOURTH STREET! 

If you normally walk to the Food Pantry, you will also get your food box on Fourth Street. We will have a specific walk-up location for you to be served. Please wait there to be served and keep two arms lengths distance from others who may be in line for distribution. We are very excited to announce some new changes to our business!

 As of April 5th 2021: -We will be changing our operating days/hours to Tuesday-Saturday 9-5. 

 -We will be switching to Board and Train Programs only (aside from private lessons), and eliminating our Day Training options. We believe that our Board and Train option is far more effective in accomplishing our clients goals. We will be doing drop offs on Tuesdays and pick ups on Saturdays. If you choose to do a board and train program longer than 5 days, your dog will go home with you Saturday and be dropped of the following Tuesday to finish the program. We will be doing this to maximize the effectiveness of the training, ensuring the owners have time in between trainings to work on what was taught. All Board and Train Programs will still come with private lessons (1, 2, 4, 5, or 6 lessons depending on program choice).

 -We are going to begin Group Classes! The Group Classes will be offered to all of our clients who have previously went through training with us. The classes will focus on obedience around distractions, socialization, and overall control in public settings.

 -Top Dog Training is also looking to rent out a space in our training facility to an experienced groomer! It is our goal to provide as many helpful services to our clients as possible, and we feel that adding a grooming option will provide an opportunity of growth to another business in the dog industry as well! Emporium Rotary Collecting Used Eyeglasses

 Emporium Rotary is collecting used prescription eyeglasses (adult & children), reading glasses, and sunglasses (prescription & non prescription) for the DuBois Lions Club. Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and collect usable glasses to support Lions Recycle for Sight Program, which provides usable eyeglasses to children and adults throughout the world. 

Collection boxes are located at the Cameron County Chamber and Emporium Wellness Center on Sizerville Rd. or you may contact any Rotary member or call 486-3282, if you wish to donate eyeglasses. Glasses should be in good condition and no broken frames or missing lenses.

Guy & Mary Felt Manor Update January 22, 2021

 Everyone has been celebrating that 2020 is over, but some of the lingering problems we have been dealing with remain. We have been doing our best here at the facility to combat COVID-19, but more remains to be done. We have to maintain Infection Control measures without letting up and without showing any signs of pandemic fatigue. 

 Here are a few items we would like to share:

 1. Rooms 1-16 are now in our green zone. No COVID signs/symptoms.

 2. Rooms 17-21 are yellow zone. They will be used for any new admissions that need to quarantine for 14 days and any resident that is a readmitted from a hospital stay.

 3. Our second COVID vaccine will be given 2/1/21. There will also be another clinic held on 2/22/21 for anyone that receives there first vaccine 2/1. 

4. 95 % of residents have received their first COVID vaccine. 

5. We are potentially opening up our dining room early next week. We will accommodate those residents requiring meal assistance.

 As well as others who wish to eat in the dining room, placed 6 feet apart. 

6. Activities will resume with small groups only.

 

7. Zoom, Facetime, or phone calls are available. 

 Please call Pat Kempher to schedule a Zoom or Facetime visit

 

8 Compassionate care visits are available under special circumstances. 

9 Please refrain from walking up to residents windows. At this time, it continues to be a facility liability issue and invades resident privacy. Once the weather breaks, we can start to schedule window visits back at our dining room window.

Felt Manor has learned from 2020….adapt quickly, safeguard our residents, changes in technology, and working together as a team. If anything, we have learned to remain positive….after all, the hardest part appears to be behind us.

 For those who knew Charmaine, there will be an online service this Saturday, January 23 at 3pm. 

Fellow friends and family members of my mother, Charmaine, please join us Saturday January 23rd for a memorial service celebrating her life. The service will be done by a close friend and elder of the Kingdom Hall Kersey congregation (previously the Emporium congregation) Mr. Bob Sulade. The event will take place cross-platform on Zoom and Facebook live. only Family members and Congregation members have the Zoom link, so please join this group so we can add additional capacity to her service. 

This is a public event open for anyone to attend, I encourage as many people to join and leave comments and enjoy her memorial. Please share this event to help get the word out we look forward to seeing everyone there Thank you.

We are doing our best to meet the needs of our patients and the communities we serve based on guidance from the Dept. of Health. Please know that although we would like to accommodate every request for a vaccine that we receive, we are not able to do so at this point. February Red Cross Blood Drive

 

There's new FDA blood donation eligibility guidance for those who receive a COVID-19 vaccination. But good news, there's no deferral time if you receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. If you receive a vaccine, knowing the name of the manufacturer is critical in determining your eligibility. 

All donations are tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Results available within one to two weeks via your donor account on both RedCrossBlood.org and the Blood Donor App. 

The Red Cross follows the highest standards of safety and infection control. In accordance with CDC guidelines, all donors are required to wear a face covering or mask. Valve face masks are not permitted. Face shields can be worn in addition to face masks but not as a substitute.

 Cameron County Community Chest 2021 Fund Drive – Jan. Update 

The Cameron County Community Chest Board of Directors wishes everyone a very Happy New Year. As of January 20th, we have collected $9,833 toward our $19,000 goal. We are just over half way there. Thanks to all who have contributed so far. The 2021 fund drive will stay open until September 30th. 

This month’s featured organization will be the Penn Highlands Community Nurses. 

Penn Highlands Community Nurses is a non-profit home care organization established in 1929 that provides comprehensive services to the residents of Cameron, Elk, McKean, Clearfield, Jefferson and Potter Counties. 

Services include: 

Home Health Services- provides in-home skilled medical services for those experiencing post-hospital care, or changes in a health care condition which include: Nursing, Rehabilitation Therapy, Medication Management, Personal Care, Medical Social Services and Nutrition Counseling. 

Hospice Services- provides comprehensive services for those with an advanced illness. Nursing, emotional and spiritual support is provided to improve quality of life for the person in their home or residence. 

Home Support/Private Duty-offers non-medical supportive in-home services, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to help people remain independent and safe in their home. Services include, but are not limited to personal care, bathing assistance, hair care, preparing meals, laundry, shopping and respite care. 

Adult Day Services-offers an activity-oriented, medically supervised day program for people 60 and older with physical or mental limitations. The Center is located in St. Marys and is open 8:00 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Center is temporarily closed due to DOH restrictions regarding COVID-19. It will reopen once state regulations permit.

Bait & Tackle Shop Opening @ C&B Car Wash

 

Carrie and I wanted to let everyone know that if you enjoy fishing in the Pa Wilds we will be opening a bait and tackle shop at the Carwash facility. It will be located in the old embroidery shop.

Gary W. Regelman

 

Gary W. Regelman, 68, Milton, son of the late LaRue and Margaret “Peg” Regelman of Emporium, passed away on January 16, 2021. He was born February 24, 1952 in Seneca Falls, NY. 

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane Schager Regelman, and three children Philip Regelman (Molly Warnick) of Somerset, PA; Stacie Regelman (Josh Criswell) of Boston, MA; and Nicholas Regelman of Williamsport, PA., and his five grandchildren Elijah, Levi, Sally, Natalie and Reagan. He is also survived by his twin sister, Mary Hardie, of Huntingdon, PA and one brother, Stephen Regelman (Rose) of Johnsonburg, PA along with many nieces and nephews. 

Gary was a dedicated employee of ACF Industries where he worked as a draftsman, inspector and engineer for over 30 years. He retired in 2011. Gary was an avid fisherman and enjoyed sharing his skills with his children and others. 

A private service will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

Former Palace of Sweets, Apartment Building Demolished Today

Over two years after the fire, the burnt building located at 448 East Allegany Ave. is coming down.   I am not sure what has been in this building over the years but it was once the Palace of Sweets. I know my Uncle John Malizia & wife Anne owned it in the mid 1940's.The last photo listed is my mother with her uncle, Jim Murphy, in front of the Palace of Sweets in 1943.
