BAGUBA Meeting Monday, November 17

REMINDER! JO parents/guardians and wrestlers must attend the parent meeting on Monday night in the CCHS cafeteria at 5:30.

If your wrestler is really little (6 and under) and they would have trouble sitting through an informational meeting, feel free to use your best judgement on whether they should attend. We just ask that you pass on any important rules and information to your child.

At the beginning of the meeting we will hold elections for the BAGUBA Booster's board of directors. Without our booster club, the JO program would not exist and the Jr High and Varsity programs could not do many of the things they do because of slim athletic budgets.

Please consider helping out in some capacity, even it's just attending meetings or helping in other areas. We are all busy, working parents so we understand the commitment, but together we are stronger and can accomplish more for the kids!!

 See you there!!

Historical 1960-1964 Centennial Parades DVD

Historical 1960-1964 Centennial Parades DVD available by pre-order shown at Emporium's 150th Birthday celebration currently being offered by the Cameron County Historical Society. Historical Society Board Director Michael Wennin recently discovered a film that included Cameron County and Emporium's Centennial Parades and grabbed at the chance to obtain it for our files.

Wennin had the old style film converted to a DVD that was shown at Emporium 150th Birthday celebration held this past October at the VFW. It quickly became such a hit at the celebration, with most who saw it requested copies.

The uniqueness of this DVD is that it had never been shown before and was actually filmed by a professional who left the area shortly after the parades occurred.

Pre-orders only are being accepted for the DVD as the Historical Society must meet a minimum threshold in order to have the copies made. The final date to order will be December 1, 2014! They are scheduled to arrive the beginning of December for those who might want to purchase it as a unique Christmas gift for any local history buff!

The DVD will cost $10 - shipping to any US location is available for an additional $3 - Checks can be made out to the “Cameron County Historical Society” and sent to PO Box 433; Emporium, PA 15834.

Iconic Pennsylavania Elk Killed In 2014 Elk Season

Iconic Elk Killed

""Today I received news that the most famous and likely the most photographed  mature bull elk in Pennsylvania was shot and killed on the second day of elk season by a young hunter from Erie.  This was the bull known as "Limpy" which I filmed and photographed  for the first time in 2009 when he was already a mature 7x7 bull. The 2014 elk season began on Monday November 3rd and will continue through Saturday November 8 with an extended season in certain areas on November 10--15th. """

Ski Denton at Denton Hill State Park Will Not Open This Winter

Ski Denton at Denton Hill State Park Will Not Open This Winter

Unfortunate News For Our Area and for Local Skiers

Causer Issues Statement on Status of Denton Hill State Park

http://www.repcauser.com/NewsItem.aspx?NewsID=21965
0/30/2014

HARRISBURG – Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) issued the following statement in response to news that Ski Denton at Denton Hill State Park may not open this season for financial reasons:

“I am deeply disappointed by the prospect of Ski Denton at Denton Hill State Park being closed this winter. The park is a wonderful place enjoyed by so many of us in the area, and it has great potential to offer year-round recreation. Despite years of calling on the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to step up and invest in the park’s infrastructure, the facility has been virtually ignored by state officials. Considering the financial boost the state gets from the thousands of acres of state-owned land in our region, it is certainly fair to expect some of that money to be invested here at home.

“I have spoken with DCNR in recent weeks about this situation and am encouraged the department has agreed to conduct a feasibility study to identify ways to not only improve skiing at the park but also open up other year-round recreational opportunities.

“I am committed to working with the concessionaire, DCNR and Sen. Joe Scarnati to do all we can to keep the ski area open. And by working together, I believe we can look forward to a brighter future for Denton Hill State Park.”

http://skidenton.com  Comments from Ski Denton website listed below -

"" On the heels of the worst two winters that the ski industry has ever seen, an last season’s extreme cold weather which resulted in double the utility costs, Ski Denton is not able, financially, to open Denton Hill State Park for the 2014-2015 ski season.  Laura and I put forth a tremendous effort and wish to thank all of our current supports and past patrons.  Thank you""

""  We’ve spoken to the owners of Swain Resort in NY and Ski Sawmill in PA, and they are both willing to offer a special deal to any previous Ski Denton season passholders until November 15. Call them for details (607-545-6511 for Swain and 570-353-7521 for Ski Sawmill.) Please be assured, we will be returning any season pass money paid for this upcoming season. Thank you. ""
