NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STATE COLLEGE PA

LOW PRESSURE OVER MICHIGAN THIS MORNING WILL MOVE NORTHEAST AND PUSH A TRAILING FRONTAL SYSTEM ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA TODAY. A MIX OF RAIN AND SLEET IN THE WEST EARLY THIS MORNING WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD EASTWARD.

THE PRECIPITATION COULD BE FREEZING RAIN AS IT CROSSES THE ALLEGHENY PLATEAU WHERE TEMPERATURES RANGE WIDELY FROM LOWER 20S IN THE VALLEYS TO THE MID 30S IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS EARLY THIS MORNING. SNOW IS LIKELY FOR QUITE A BIT OF THE CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST. THE GREATEST CHANCE OF A STEADY ACCUMULATION OF SNOW WILL BE OVER NORTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA...WHERE 2-3 INCHES OF SNOW ARE POSSIBLE TODAY.

THE SOUTHEASTERN PIEDMONT WILL PRIMARILY GET RAIN WITH LITTLE OR NO SNOW OR SLEET ACCUMULATION. THE PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF BEFORE NOON IN THE WEST AND CENTRAL COUNTIES. HOWEVER...SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS WILL KICK IN AGAIN AS THE COLD FRONT PASSES AND WESTERLY WINDS SET UP.

EASTERN LOCATIONS WILL HAVE THE PRECIPITATION END LATE IN THE DAY. TEMPERATURES WILL VARY GREATLY THROUGH THE DAY AS WARM AIR BEFORE THE FRONT MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR THE SOUTHEASTERN VALLEYS TO GET INTO THE 40S...AND EVEN CLOSE TO 50 DEGREES IN PHILADELPHIA. BUT THE EARLY UPPER 30S AND 40S IN THE WEST WILL COOL OFF WHEN THE FRONT PASSES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. LOWS TONIGHT WILL BE IN THE TEENS WEST AND 20S EAST. TEMPERATURES WILL RISE VERY LITTLE ON WEDNESDAY WITH HIGHS EXPECTED TO BE IN THE UPPER TEENS IN THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS AND LOWER TO MID 30S IN THE SOUTHEAST.
