Pauline K Gebauer

 
Pauline K. Gebauer, 82, of Elk Towers,185 Center St., St. Marys formerly of 430 W. 6th St., Emporium, died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Friday (September 28, 2012) evening.
She was born January 8, 1930 in DuBois a daughter of the late Rudolph and Anna Narvey.
On October 18, 1958 in St. Mark Catholic Church she married the late Gerhard Gebauer.

Mrs. Gebauer graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1948. After graduating high school she worked at the Five and Dime Store. She then moved to Washington DC, where she really enjoyed living, and worked as a secretary at the Food & Drug Administration. She returned to Emporium to care for her mother and worked at Sylvania in Emporium. She then got married and raised her four children and devoted most of her life to her family. When she was in her 50's she attended DuBois School of Cosmetology, became a hairdresser, and worked from her home and also at local nursing homes. She was an avid reader, making several trips to the library each week. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and the C.D. of A.

Margaret L Housler

 
Margaret L. Housler, 82, of 949 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium, died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor in Emporium on Thursday (September 27, 2012) morning following a lengthy illness
She was born January 6, 1930 in Johnsonburg a daughter of the late Bennie and Mary Nestlerode Wennin.
On June 22, 1957 in Driftwood she married Fredrick E. Housler, who survives.
 
Mrs. Housler graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1946. Years ago she worked for the law office of attorney Tompkins and later at the law office of attorney Joe Malizia. She started a family and was a stay-at-home mother raising her family until returning to work at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals where she worked over 17 years. She retired in 1995. She was a member of St. Marks Catholic Church and the VFW Axillary.

Mary Louise (Vought) Rodich

 
 
 
Mary Louise (Vought) Rodich, 87, formerly of the Maple Street Apartments passed away Monday, September 24, 2012, in Guy and Mary Felt Manor, Emporium.
Born February 17, 1925 in Emporium she was the daughter of the late Grant Stanley and Belva Leigh Paul Vought. On November 27, 1948 in Emporium, she married James Joseph Rodich who passed away July 15, 2001.
A lifelong resident of Emporium, Mrs. Rodich was a 1942 graduate of Emporium High School and was employed in the dental office of Dr. G.V. Burns in Emporium from 1941 to 1943. She was employed as a secretary from 1944 to 1964 by GTE Sylvania in Emporium and from 1970 until 1975 by Tau Electronics also in Emporium.
A member of the FirstUnited MethodistChurch in Emporium since 1936, she was a 63 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Emporium Chapter #101 and was a former member and past secretary/treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Emporium Country Club.
Mrs. Rodich is survived locally by one sister-in-law Pearl Vought of Emporium; one niece Barbara Vought (Steve) Ostrum of Emporium; a great niece, Rhonda Vought and great nephew, Philip Vought both of Emporium; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four sisters, Kathryn Burns, Carolyn Overmier, Helen Walker, and Betty Jane Liebel, and one brother, Charles Vought.
Visitations with video tribute will be held Wednesday, September 26 from 4-7 p.m. in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
Funeral and Committal Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First UnitedMethodist Church, Emporium, with the Rev. Joseph Short, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
An Eastern Star Memorial Service will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library.

Ralph "Sonny" Meloni




Ralph "Sonny" Meloni,  79, of 278 Elm St., Weedville, PA died at Elk Regional Health  Center, St. Marys on Thursday (September 13, 2012) morning.
He was born September 17, 1932 in Force a son  of the late Mario L. and Ruby Taylor Meloni.
On September 8, 1956 in St. Joseph Catholic  Church, Force he married Neomi D. Walters Meloni, who Survives
Mr. Meloni entered the military in 1953 and  served with the US Army for 17 months during the Korean War. After the War he  worked at Stackpole Carbon and later for the former Elk Builders in the  pluming department. He also owned Meloni Tires in Weedville. He was a member  of the Bennetts Valley American Legion Post 978, Weedville.

New OB/GYN Joins Women’s Health Team at Cole Memorial


 
Coudersport, PA— Mazen Fouany, MD an obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) specialist is now accepting patients at the Women’s Health Center at Cole Memorial in Coudersport.  He joins the team of OB/GYN providers including Celso Backos, MD, Max Laurore, MD and Jennifer Middaugh, CNM.

 Dr. Fouany completed an internship and OB/GYN residency at the George Washington University Medical Center (GWUMC) in Washington, DC after earning a Doctorate of Medicine with Distinction from the University of Balamand School of Medicine in El-Koura, Lebanon in 2007. Additionally, he was a resident of the general surgery program at the St. Georges University Hospital of London.

 Prior to joining Cole Memorial, Dr. Fouany worked at GWUMC Hospital in downtown Washington and the Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.

Richard G. "Dickie Bird" Lininger

Richard G. "Dickie Bird" Lininger, 81, of 7113 Jerry Run Rd., Sinnemahoning
died at his residence Saturday (September 8, 2012) evening.
He was born May 17, 1931 in Austin, PA a son of the late George and Alvina Kornacki Lininger. In 1967 in McKeesport he married Johanna Anderson Lininger, who Survives.
Mr. Lininger retired from Cameron Manufacturing where he worked for many years. He was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin and Sinnemahoning Fire Department where he served as fire police for many years. He was a member of the Bucktail Bowling League for many years. Hius hobbies include dancing, roller skating and bowling. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.

September 11, 2001 A day To Remember

On September 11, 2012 @ 11:00 A.M., a ceremony will be held on North Broad Street in Emporium.  It will be a tribute to those victims that lost their lives on 9/11/01 and it will honor the men and women that protect our freedom.



We will also be honoring beloved teacher Max Narby. Max will always be remembered for his love of this country and his commitment to teaching and being an outstanding citizen of Cameron County. 

HS-Loren B. Wright Band Festival

The Eighth Annual Loren B Wright Memorial Showcase of Bands will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Kane High School. This event is held to raise money for the Loren B Wright Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Kane Area Music Boosters.
Twelve bands will be featured in this years show. They are Eisenhower, Youngsville, Warren, Elk County Catholic, Otto Eldred, Smethport, Port Allegany, Johnsonburg, Ridgway, Cameron County, St Marys and Kane. This is an exhibition show and no judging takes place. This  gives competing bands a chance to perform their show in front of an audience prior to an actual competition. It also allows non competing bands to perform their shows in front of a non football audience. Over 1000 students will be participating in this event.

 The Grey Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from Johnsonburg will perform after all the bands. Last years performance was their first and they were an enjoyment to watch.
The show will start at 5 p.m. with the National Anthem. The first band will take the field at 5:15. Everyone is invited. There is an admission. Refreshments, a basket raffle, Buffalo Bills Ticket raffle and 50/50s will be available.
The show will be held in the auditorium if the rain continues.

Margie A Weaver

Margie A. Weaver, 65, of 568 Meadow Rd., Emporium died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium on Tuesday (September 4, 2012) evening.
She was born March 13, 1947 in Port Allegany a daughter of the late Millard and Annabelle Kinney Daugherty.
On December 21, 1974 in DuBois she married the late Thomas Weaver.
 
Mrs. Weaver graduated from Port Allegany High School in the class of 1965. She worked at Cameron Manufacturing for several years and was later self-employed as a housekeeper for many local families and businesses. She enjoyed playing cards and her trips to Salamanca, NY. She also enjoyed open "Mic" night on Tuesdays at the Aroma Cafe' and her morning coffee group get-togethers.

Tom Smith Captured Tonight

 
 
 
Fugitive Tom Smith has been apprehended.  He was picked up earlier tonight at the Allegany Pub in Emporium.

At this time  is unclear whether he was caught or whether he turned himself in.

He had been on the run for nearly a month after allegedly kidnapping an Emporium woman at gunpoint.
