St Marys –Work to repair a bridge on Route 1008 (West Creek Road) in Elk County will get underway Monday, July 30 and detours will be in place. The bridge spans West Creek on Route 1008, just west of the Elk/Cameron county line.

Repairing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Elk County’s list of structurally deficient bridges and keep it in service for years to come. The bridge was built in 1963, is 63 feet long and carries an average of 150 vehicles per day.

In order to make the repairs, the road near the bridge will be closed and detours will be in place. From the St Marys side of the bridge, drivers will use Route 1008 to Route 1003 (Washington Street) to North Michael Street to Route 120. On the Emporium side of the bridge, drivers will use Route 1008 into Cameron County, Route 4002 (Beechwood Road) to Route 120.

R.L. Johnson Construction Co. of Kittanning is the contractor on this $264,000 job, which is expected to last through Oct. 4. Work includes removal and replacement of the current deck surface, beam repair, guide rail updates, and slope and embankment improvements. All work is weather dependent.
