Weekend in the Wilds Adding Events

Weekend in the Wilds Adding Events

More events coming July 6-7 during Weekend in the Wilds in Cameron County.

The festival held each year the first Saturday of July features the loudest fireworks in the state. The 30 minute show Saturday night at the Cameron County High School football stadium continues to attract people from across the state.
Parking is free and the football stadium bleachers are available for seating.

Added this year is stargazing Friday night at Sizerville State Park. Astronomer Stash Nawrocki known for his programs at Cherry Spring State Park will offer the free program starting at 9pm. Attendees are asked to bring flashlights, lawn chairs, bug spray and water to the field across from the campground trail.

The week begins with the annual used book sale at Barbara Moscato Memorial Library
July 3, 5, 6 and 7.

Weekend in the Wilds 2-day event includes the favorites like the pie and ice cream social Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, and a night swim at the Cameron County High School community pool.

Saturday’s festivities begin at dawn with the Big Foot Hunt, benefiting
 Mountaineer Search &  Rescue.

Downtown you’ll find the artists’ tent, children’s activities including an air rifle shoot,
and new this year - edible art.

On Saturday a street dance will be sponsored by Mack’s Rhythm & Brews. DJ Eggman will play requests and people can dance on Chestnut Street from Fourth to Third Streets from 3pm-6pm.

Also planned is a duck race utilizing North Broad Street. Ducks may be adopted at the chamber office prior to the 3pm race.

Food vendors will line East Fourth Street and a garage sale benefiting the Cameron County SPCA at the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department extends Saturday vendors to North Broad Street.

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce organizers say there are a few spaces for vendors, but reservations must be made by Friday June 29. “The event continues to grow each year and especially this year with Sizerville State Park bringing a dark skies program to Cameron County and the addition of a street dance,” says Tina Solak, executive director.
