Kenneth I. Burkhouse


Kenneth I. Burkhouse, 93, of 616 Rich Valley Rd, Emporium, PA formerly of Sylvan Heights died at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA on Tuesday (August 15, 2017) afternoon. He was born September 7, 1923 in Reynoldsville, PA a son of the late Fred and Mae Smith Burkhouse. On July 19, 1947 in Mt. Jewett he married the late Margaret "Peg" Cupp Burkhouse.

Ken graduated from Mount Jewett High School where he was a standout basketball player, playing at the state level. He served with the US Armys Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant where he was a flight instructor during war war II. He then graduated from the Philadelphia School of Pharmacy. He owned several pharmacies in Ridgway and in Lebanon, PA and later partnered with Ed Lundburg in the former Burklund Pharmacy in Emporium, from which he retired in 1989. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Emporium and was an avid golfer bowler, member and past president of the Emporium Country Club for many years.

He is survived by two sons, Robert (Merri) Burkhouse, Ridgway and Kenneth (Ruthie) Burkhouse, Emporium; four grandchildren: Kelly, Kimberly, Justin and Katie; two great grandchildren: Eastan and Cooper.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mae Burkhouse; his wife, Margaret "Peg" Burkhouse who died Sept. 11, 1998; one daughter, in infancy and a brother, Donald Burkhouse.

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-5 PM.
 Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Monday (August 21, 2017) at 11:00 AM with Rev. Steven Miller, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, officiating.
 A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail. 
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA
