Robert K. Dunsmore “beloved husband, father and grandfather”

Robert Kenneth “Bob” Dunsmore, 81, of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 7, 1935 in Philipsburg, he was a son of J. Donald and Elizabeth Stahl Dunsmore. On October 29, 1960 in Portville, NY, he married the former Janet Phillips, who survives.

He was a 1953 graduate of Philipsburg High School, a 1957 graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College and in 1968 he received his Master’s Degree from Ithaca College.

Mr. Dunsmore was employed at Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse from 1957 through 1962 and at Bolivar Central School from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. He taught Phys. Ed., Health, and Driver’s Education.

“Coach” Dunsmore was the head football coach at Bolivar Central School for 22 seasons where he was a two time “Big 30” Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the Allegany, NY County Sports Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the Section “V” Football Hall of Fame.

Shortly after his retirement, Coach Dunsmore was honored by the naming of the new Bolivar football stadium, the “Dunsmore-Latimer” Field.

Mr. Dunsmore loved spending time with his entire family. He loved attending their sporting events, vacationing together at Rehoboth Beach, and playing card games, especially Euchre.

Mr. & Mrs. Dunsmore enjoyed many years of traveling around the country competing in horseshoe tournaments. Bob also ran horseshoe leagues and tournaments in Shinglehouse and Bolivar, NY.

Mr. Dunsmore was a member of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Shinglehouse. He was easily recognized traveling throughout the area with his wife in his signature blue Dodge Omni.

Surviving besides his wife of 56 years are two daughters, Deborah Dunsmore Richardson of Troy, Diana “DeeDee” (Tim) Myers of Columbus, OH; two sons, Stan (Sandy) Dunsmore of Emporium and Michael (Liz Beck) Dunsmore of Bolivar, NY; eleven grandchildren, Cari Carlson, Chad (Brittany) Carlson, Katie Carlson, Bethany (Kyle) Vogt, Breanna Dunsmore, Brooke Dunsmore, Kristen (Taylor) Scott, Shawn (Adrienne Pambianco) Gruber, Troy Robert Myers, Taylor (Collin) Morrison, and Bruce (Brystal) Wilson; two great grandchildren, Lilah and Riley Carlson; a sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” (Ronald) Barnett of Philipsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, David Dunsmore; and a nephew, Richard Barnett.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 9 pm at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA and on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 9 to 11 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Wednesday in St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, Shinglehouse, with the Rev. Thomas E. Brown, pastor, as celebrant.

 Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, at a later date. There will be a luncheon and celebration of life immediately following the Mass at the Bolivar Golf Club, Bolivar, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials if desired, may be made in Mr. Dunsmore’s honor to St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, P O Box 277, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
