Timber Rattlesnake program at Sinnemahoning State Park

Sinnemahoning – Stacy Foster to present timber rattlesnake program titled, The Secret Behind the Rattle, on Saturday, August 13, 2016, 7:00-8:30 PM, at Sinnemahoning State Park

Both terrifying and intriguing, the timber rattlesnake is a secretive and shy creature that is unjustly feared by many people. On Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Sinnemahoning State Park, certified timber rattlesnake construction monitor, Stacy Foster, will present a detailed portrayal into the life of a timber rattlesnake, a surprisingly docile and significant component of our Pennsylvania forest ecosystem.

Stacy, who graduated from Penn State Dubois with a degree in wildlife technology and a passion for snakes, is a huge advocate of using environmental education as a tool to promote the preservation of wildlife, particularly rattlesnakes. During her program on Saturday evening, Stacy will introduce the three venomous snakes that can be found in Pennsylvania, provide helpful identification tools in order to correctly identify these venomous snakes, and detail the natural history of Pennsylvania's largest pit viper, the timber rattlesnake. Stacy will also discuss common misconceptions associated with the timber rattler and share safety precautions that can be easily applied if you encounter this passive creature in the wild.

This program, entitled, “The Secret Behind the Rattle” will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the classroom of the Park Office and Wildlife Center, located at 4843 Park Drive, Austin, PA. Concluding the presentation, Stacy will give park visitors an opportunity to view up-close a live rattlesnake.
