Gladys V. Miller



Gladys V. Miller, age 96, formerly of West Creek Road and most recently of the Guy & Mary Felt Manor in Emporium, died Monday, March 30, 2015, in Penn Highlands Elk Medical Center, St. Marys.

Born June 1, 1918 in Emporium, she was the daughter of J. Fred and Violet Barr Ostrum. On August 9, 1941 in the First Baptist Church in Emporium she married Harlan (Jim) Miller who died September 5, 1999.

A resident of Emporium her entire life, she attended Plank Road Hollow School. For 34 years she was employed by GTE Sylvania in Emporium before retiring on June 16, 1978.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Baptist Church of Emporium, the Emporium Senior Center, and the Bucktail Rod & Gun Club. After retiring she did a lot of volunteer work, driving people to doctor appointments and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was also a lifelong blood donor and was the top donor in Cameron County for many years having donated over 26 gallons.

Survivors include: two children, Fred I. (Mary) Miller of Clearfield and Donna M. (Gary) House of Victor, NY; six grandchildren, Jean and Melissa Miller and Bethany (Derryck) Cromwell and Michael and Matthew (Karrie) House and Melanie (Zdenek) Chumacero; five great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Ostrum of Emporium; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister Rose Griffith and four brothers, Samuel, Keith, Melvin (Flash), and Robert Ostrum.

Friends will be received from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium where Funeral and Committal Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Andy Johnson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First Baptist Church, the Emporium Senior Center, Guy and Mary Felt Manor, or if you are able, please donate blood.
