Josephine Bursic Kirn



Josephine Bursic Kirn, 95, of Verona, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 3, 2014. Born April 16, 1919 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Crnkovic Bursic. On April 26, 1947, in St. Joseph Church, Verona, she married William M. Kirn who died July 7, 1993.

A resident of Verona most of her life, she was a 1938 graduate of Verona High School and the Pittsburgh Academy Business School in 1940. She was a homemaker but at various times was employed as a bookkeeper and/or sales representative by Verona News & Ice Cream Shop, Scaife’s Mfg., Hayes Appliances, Ritter Plumbing and Hornes Department Store. Mrs. Kirn was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church in Verona and was very involved with the local Slovenian & Croation Clubs, had many hobbies & interests like bowling, golfing, ceramics, and photography, and was a great Pittsburgh sports fan.

Survivors include: three daughters, Joyce (Barry) Scott of Connoquenessing, Shirley (Jim) Condon of Emporium, and Jane (John) Malek of Monroeville; three grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Bocci of Butler, Dr. Kim (Dr. Jim) Kelly of Lititz, and TJ Condon of Pittsburgh; four great grandchildren; and several generations of nieces & nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Bursic & Ante Bursic; and one sister, Angeline Hromyak.

Visitations with video tribute will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in the English Funeral Home, Oakmont. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, in St. Joseph Church, Verona, with Fr. Edwin Wichman, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Verona.

 Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Joseph Church, 825 Second Avenue, Verona, PA 15147. Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
