October Programs @ Sinnemahoning State Park

The Sinnemahoning State Park is offering a variety of environmental programs and activities in October.

Leaves & Lunch Pontoon Boat Program
Sunday, Oct. 13, 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
At the George B. Stevenson Reservoir, join Sinnemahoning State Park staff for an afternoon pontoon boat ride on the lake, as we take a look at the colors of fall and the natural processes that cause this dramatic change.  Enjoy lunch on the boat, complete with tablecloths and music, surrounded by the blazing colors of autumn in the Pennsylvania Wilds.  Program fee of $20 per person includes a catered lunch.  Pre-registration is required.  Limit of 12 people.  To register for the program or for more information, please call the park office.

Volunteer Work Day
Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

At the Sinnemahoning State Park Office and Wildlife Center, volunteers are invited to please join us for a Volunteer Work Day at Sinnemahoning.  Projects will include construction of a bird-feeding station, and butterfly and rain garden maintenance.  No experience is necessary; all you need is a willingness to lend a hand.  Bring a friend!  All volunteers, groups or individuals are welcome to help out.  Volunteers must have parental consent to participate if they’re 17 years old and under.  Lunch will not be provided, but refreshments will be available.  Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.  Please bring along a water bottle and work gloves if you have them.  Pre-registration is requested.

The Haunted Halloween Trail at Sinnemahoning State Park
Friday, Oct. 25, 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.
At the Sinnemahoning State Park Office and Wildlife Center, you are invited to come for a BOO-tiful autumn celebration! The spirited evening begins with Halloween crafts and games for younger children and their families in the Wildlife Center classroom from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., followed by a kid-friendly version of the haunted trail from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.  After dark, the spookiness begins and the trail opens for older children and adults.    Watch for ghosts, ghouls and goblins and some scary native critters, too!  Bring a flashlight to help light your way. Before and after the trail, everyone can relax and enjoy light refreshments and live music by the Down County Country Boys Band at the Wildlife Center. Please call the park office for more information and a schedule of events for this free, family program.

For more information about these programs at Sinnemahoning State Park, contact Kim Lott, Environmental Education Specialist, at 814-647-8401 ext. 106 or by email at KLOTT@pa.gov.  An online calendar of events with information on upcoming programs can also be found at www.visitPAparks.com.

If you need an accommodation to participate in park activities due to a disability, please contact the park you plan to visit.  With at least three days notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
