Dents Run - The Lost Gold

This story ran on wjactv.com on Thursday, April 19, 2012

www.wjactv.com/news/news/finders-keepers-must-vacate-dents-run-site/nMdRn

DENTS RUN, Pa. —
For more than a century treasure hunters across the country have been in search for the lost Civil War gold in Elk County. Finders Keepers, a company that locates and recovers lost treasure has been in search for gold in Dents Run since 2005.
Dents Run is located just near the Cameron County border.

Dennis Parada and his son Kem began searching for the lost gold at this site in November 2005.
"Some thought we would have given up by now, but no way. We know what is up there, we're not giving up," said Dennis Parada.

Parada said that in July, Finders Keepers hit gold with their machines in Dents Run. Due to the law, Parada said that they were not allowed to dig up their findings.
Parada is confident that he and fellow members of Finders Keepers found theCivil War gold.

For the first time, Finders Keepers allowed TV cameras at their site in Dents Run. Parada said that their ground penetrating locator (GPL) has dedicated gold and silver.
Parada said that they believe there is a ton and a half of gold underground. He said that he believes the gold is in the form of bars.

Parada also noted that they believe there is a 12 x 12 area of silver.
Finders Keepers cannot dig up the gold. In early April they also found out that they have to leave the site.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources sent Finders Keepers a letter stating that they had to cease all operations and vacate the property immediately.

Finders Keeps must leave by 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
"Sitting on the gold knowing where it was at all these years we can deal with that. But, once people come in and start digging, that's when we get mad," said Parada.
Finders Keepers tells 6 News they just want to prove that there is gold. Unfortunately, the state is not giving them the opportunity.

"We don't feel that it is the end. We're not going to give up, we're going to keep claiming to the site," said Kem Parada.
Finders Keepers told 6 News that they plan on taking DCNR to court.

In the meantime, they are also in the process of lining up a series on Dents Run with the History Channel. To learn more about Finders Keepers you can visit their website www.finderskeepersusa.com

WPSU "Our Town" Returns

Our Town Kickoff!
by Jessica

On Friday, March 9th, Sam Komlenic and I made the beautiful drive from State College, through the Quehanna Wilds Area, to Emporium to meet with about 10 folks at the Emporium Borough Building to kickoff the 66th installation in the Our Town series! This is the second time we have visited Emporium for the Our Town series. The first was in 2001—and we thought that it was time for an update! We’re looking for community volunteers to help tell the story of this town at the heart of the PA Wilds!

Sam and I were so thrilled with how excited and full of ideas everyone seemed to be! We were able to confirm dates for both the open community meeting, as well as for the date of our on-camera interviews! The community meeting, where we’ll have a training for any interested participants, as well as sign people up for their story ideas and interview times, will be on Wednesday, April 18th at 6 pm at the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department.

From there, the community volunteers will gather photos and video to help tell their story, and bring those materials to the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce and Artisan Center on Saturday, April 28th at their designated time, where they will be interviewed on camera by either myself or Whitney Chirdon for an on-camera interview that we will combine with the footage collected by our volunteers!

The result? A program that will be broadcast on your local public TV station, WPSU, that tells the stories of the past, present, and future happenings in Emporium and the Cameron County area! No experience is needed in TV production—just enthusiasm! We’ll help you with the rest! I hope to see you at the community meeting on April 18th!
