Edmund N. Holt


Edmund N. Holt, 79, beloved husband and father, and son of Edmund Z. and Catherine  (Stascavage) Holt died quietly at home surrounded by family on July 16, 2011 from aggressive  cancer. Ed was born November 13, 1931 in Kingston, PA.

 He graduated from Emporium High School in  1950 then served in the US Army stationed in Japan.   Following the Korean War, he worked at Sylvania,  initially as a machinist and 38 years later retiring as a tool and die maker.  While  employed at Sylvania, Ed met his future wife Gladys. After marrying in 1956, they built their home overlooking West Creek, mostly with their own  labor.    Ed supplemented his Sylvania income with a variety of second jobs, including:   proprietor of Holt’s Gun Shop and Realtor with McBride and Sanderson.  Ed also found time  for a wide variety of interests, always learning something new.  He was a very competitive  target shooter and an avid hunter.  He enjoyed boats, motorcycles, ATVs, geocaching, being a  webmaster, computer social networks,sports cars and piloting his own plane at various times  in his life.  But of special value to Ed was the lifelong friendships formed during these  activities, In particular, the friendships formed at Keystone Park Airport.

  He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 yrs, Gladys (Hill) Holt.  He is also survived by  his six children:  Catherine Foltz Holt,  Edmund Holt II,  Toni Momose,  Alison Holt-Kalish,  Heather Larry, and Benjamin Holt, and their spouses Curt, Debbie, Craig, Scott, Dave and  Renee, respectively.  He is survived by 17 grandchildren and by 3 great-grandchildren.  He  is predeceased by his parents, an infant brother and one granddaughter.

 Visitation with surviving family will be at the United Methodist Church, Emporium, PA from  7:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday, July 21 and from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, July 22, followed  immediately by a memorial service, also at the United Methodist Church.

  In lieu of flowers,  please make donations in Ed's name to Community Nurses, Inc., Hospice Program, 757  Johnsonburg Rd, Suite 200, St. Mary's, PA  15857.
  Arrangements are under the direction of the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
