The Elk Regional Capital Campaign Enjoying Strong Community Support

The Elk Regional Capital Campaign steering committee has announced that the Health System family has pledged $1.44 million – more than half of the campaign’s $2.5 million goal. And just five months into the campaign, Elk Regional already has more than $429,000 in donations in-hand from community foundations, local corporations and several individuals in Elk and Cameron counties.

Don W. Fleming, the campaign’s chairman, said he is pleased with the campaign’s results to date.

“I am proud to say that the Health System family and the community have made such a strong show of support for both the campaign and the building project,” Fleming said. “I believe this project is the single most important thing we can do to ensure a bright future for our hospital.”

The Health System family includes volunteers, employees, medical staff, the Board of Directors, the Health System’s Auxiliary and the Health System’s Foundation. The total $1.44 million pledge amount includes a $250,000 pledge from the Health System’s Auxiliary and a dollar-for-dollar match to employee giving, up to $500,000, from the Health System’s Foundation.

Gregory P. Bauer, the president and CEO of the Health System and the chairman of the Health System family giving campaign, said the support is “a wonderful thing to see.”

“Our Health System family has a big heart, and its members never hesitate to give of themselves,” Bauer said. “They show it time and time again, from their efforts to give back to our community to their support of this capital campaign. I have always been impressed and humbled by their generosity.”
Efforts are now underway to broaden the campaign throughout the community. The campaign’s first community solicitation included local foundations, large businesses and several individuals throughout the region.

The second phase of the campaign is now under way. In coming weeks, community members and small- and medium-sized businesses throughout the area will have an opportunity to make a gift to the campaign.

Later this spring, individuals throughout the region will be able to make a gift, in any amount, to the campaign as part of the Health System’s annual appeal. Online donations via PayPal, credit or debit card will be made available by February.

Launched in mid-August, The Elk Regional Capital Campaign is a $2.5 million fundraising effort designed to support the hospital’s $10.3 million building project.

Elk Regional will construct a new floor that will house 42 private medical/surgical patient rooms, each with a private bathroom, along with a new 10-bed geriatric behavioral health unit. In addition, Elk Regional will construct a new maternity unit that will contain eight rooms, each with a private bathroom. Four of those rooms will be for OB/GYN patients and four will be for labor, delivery and recovery patients.

Construction on the new floor will begin this spring and will be complete by the end of 2012.
