Memorial Day Parade

Emporiums Memorial Day parade will begin today @ 10 a.m. at 4th & Walnut Street.
This years speaker will be Barry D Brown III, a Desert Storm & Desert Shield veteran and a member of the Memorial Detail.

A dedication to the new veterns memorial which honors all veterns who have served & are serving against the Global War on Terrorism will also be held. This is a Boy Scout Eagle project being completed by Joey Botera III.
The public is welcome to attend all activities.

Arlene Jean Summerson Obit

Arlene Jean Summerson, 85, of 4287 Rich Valley Rd., Emporium, PA formerly of Sinnamahoning died at Elk Regional Health Center, St. Marys on Tuesday evening (May 25, 2010)

She was born Dec. 21, 1924 in Big Run, PA a daughter of the late Lawrence and Bertha McCardy Bair
She married the late Dalton "Dean" Summerson
Mrs. Summerson enjoyed traveling to the casino in Salamanca. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

Surviving are sons, Sidney Summerson and his wife Mary, Sinnamahoning, Ronald Summerson and his wife Nancy, Sinnamahoning and Dennis Summerson, Emporium.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Rich Valley Wesleyan Church, 3125 Rich Valley Road, Emporium on Wednesday (June 2, 2010) at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jason Claydon, officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family

Model Show Winners




It looks like the young gentlemen may have to step up their modeling expertise! 1st & 2nd place winners went to 2 pairs of young ladies at tonights military model show that was held in the CCHS cafeteria. The winning models were tagged shortly before 8 pm. The team of Grace Johnson & Erina Clark walked away with 1st place, while Jessica Wykoff & Krista Geelen took home 2nd. Third place was picked up by the team of Mitch Ream & Trevor Clark.

Military Model Show

Everyone is invited to attend the 18th Annual Military Model show at the Cameron County High School cafeteria. The display will be open from 6-8 pm, Tuesday May 25th.

Aproximately 70 Jr's & seniors will show off displays from the American Civil War, WWII, Vietnam, and those currently in use.

Thomas E. Coon

Thomas E. Coon, 88, of Victor, NY, formerly of Emporium and New Port Ritchey, FL, died Friday, May 14, 2010, in Highland Hospital, Rochester, NY.
Born August 16, 1921 in Arroyo, Elk County, PA, he was the son of Rolin and Grace Wallace Coon. On July 26, 1943 in Bakersfield, CA, he married Edith M. Nelson who died October 4, 2006.
Mr. Coon grew up in Emporium, was a 1939 graduate of Emporium High School, and took courses at several different colleges.
He was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Army as a pilot and flight officer. In England he joined the 50th TCS as a glider pilot and flew a glider over the Rhine landing in Germany.
After the war he and his brother owned Tom & Gene’s Mens Shop in Emporium. He later was employed for 29 years by Emporium Trust Company where he became vice president and retired in 1980. In 1985 he and his wife relocated to New Port Ritchey where they resided until moving to Victor, NY in 2004 to be near family.
Mr. Coon was a member of the First Baptist Church in Emporium and was treasurer of the American Red Cross, Band Boosters and the Fair Fund, all in Emporium.
He is survived by: two daughters, Gwendolyn Mix of Newark, NY and Janice (Bruce) Comstock of Victor, NY; two granddaughters, Stacie (Burt) Kem of Victor and Kerri (Michael) Ryan of New Providence, NJ; four great grandchildren; one sister, Marion (Jim) Whiting of St. Marys; and also nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, three sisters, and two sons-in-law, Richard Mix and John Butera.
Friends will be received in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium, Saturday, May 22 from 1-3 p.m. at which time Funeral & Committal Services will be held with the Rev. R. Scott Melott, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Newton Cemetery, Emporium.
Military honors will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First Baptist Church of Emporium, or the National Kidney Foundation

Hike Cameron County Returns

Hike Cameron County Returns

Cameron County Chamber of Commerce announces the return of the program, Hike Cameron County. To celebrate National Trail Day, a hike to the Woodman of the World gravestone for Zachary Zaner will be held. The three hour hike includes a moderate uphill to the site.

Participants are urged to meet at the Cameron County Chamber of Commerce office on Saturday, June 6 2:00 pm. Hikers who have participated in four of the Hike Cameron County events are eligible for a free limited edition walking stick medallion. The medallions will be available in June at the chamber office. A limited amount will be available for purchase at $10.00 a piece.

2010 CCHS Prom Queen & King

Wayne H. Kingsley,




Wayne H. Kingsley, 85 of 159 East Fourth Street, Emporium, Pa, died May 9, 2010 at the Dubois Regional Medical Center. He was born April 8, 1925 in Franklin, Pa, son of Guy Haldean Kingsley and Mary Riddle Kingsley. He married Mallie "Molly" Wulfert of Rochester Mills, Pa, on December 31, 1955, in the First Baptist Church of Emporium, Pa.
Mr. Kingsley was a 1942 graduate of Rocky Grove High School, Franklin, Pa. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Naval Air Force in the Western Pacific, South Pacific and in China, receiving the Air Medal with Gold Star. In 1949, he graduated from Grove City College.
He was employed as a Chemical Engineer for 32 years, first by Sylvania Electronic Products Inc., which later became GTE Sylvania and lastly became North American Philips, from which he retired.
Mr. Kingsley was a sixty-year member of Myrtle Lodge No. 316 F&AM Franklin Pa, the Coudersport Consistory and attended church services at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Emporium. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the China Burma India Veterans Association and the Sylvania Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunted in many of the Western States and Canadian Provinces.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years are two sons, Dr. David H. Kingsley and wife Betty of Chambersburg, Pa and Larry W. Kingsley and wife Bonnie of Mechanicsburg, Pa, by 5 grandchildren; Kelly, Kristen and Kayla Kingsley of Chambersburg and Benjamin and Jared Kingsley of Mechanicsburg, by one brother Lt. Col. Willard E. Kingsley (Ret.) and wife Faith of Glen Mills, Pa and one nephew, Guy H. Kingsley of St. Louis, MO.
Mr. Kingsley was predeceased by his parents and by his infant brother Edwin Louis Kingsley.
Family and friends will be received at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 East Fourth Street, Emporium, Pa on Wednesday, May 12th from 5-8 PM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 13th at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Emporium followed by a Military Service which will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Pa.

New Elk Regional Director of Radiology

We are very pleased and excited to announce that Lisa Housler has accepted the position of Interim Director of the Radiology Department . Lisa has done an excellent job as PACS Administrator and has excellent Leadership Skills . She will be leading the dept as Director of Radiology and will also continue in her role as PACS Administrator.

Free Adult Physicals End Soon

The Emporium Health Center will conclude its series of free adult physicals for uninsured and underinsured residents of Cameron County in May.

Physicals can be scheduled by calling 486-0810 and will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., May 18. Staff will also be available to discuss charity care and sliding fee scale information.

To qualify, Cameron County residents, ages 18-64, have not had a physical within the last year, and are completely uninsured or underinsured with an individual insurance deductible of $500 or $1,000 per family.

The community health improvement services at the Emporium Health Center were made possible through funding from the George A. and Margaret Mee Charitable Foundation.

Dorothy Jean Berry Obit

Dorothy Jean Berry, 70, of East Fourth Street, Emporium, died Monday, May 3, 2010, in the Guy & Mary Felt Manor.
Born April 26, 1940 in Lumber City, Clearfield County, she was the daughter of Lawrence “Dorsey” and Catherine Hornung Caldwell. On October 25, 1958 in Emporium, she married Raymond LeRoy Berry who died October 6, 1995.
A resident of Emporium for many years, Mrs. Berry was a 1958 graduate of Cameron County High School.
She was employed for several years by Motor Coils and Cameron Manufacturing, and was a cook for Head Start and the Moose Club, all in Emporium.
Mrs. Berry was a member of St. Mark Church of Emporium, Ladies of the Moose and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, also in Emporium, and May Hollow Hunting Club.
She is survived by: three daughters, Denice (Alphonse) Beccard of McDonald, PA, and Robin (John) Overturf and Jennifer (Dean) Weichman, both of Emporium; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Fredrick Caldwell and Joseph Caldwell, both of Emporium; two sisters, Marie Labrozzi of Emporium and Louise Caggeso of Ridgway; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Berry was predeceased by one daughter, Karen Huminski, one brother, William Caldwell, one sister, Clara Rinehuls and one grandson, Henry Huminski.
Friends will be received Friday, May 7 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. in the Coppersmith-Condon Funeral Home, Emporium.
A Funeral Mass will follow Friday at 12 noon in St. Mark Church with the Rev. Paul Siebert, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will be in Portage Township Cemetery, Sizerville.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium.

CCHS Prom

The Cameron County High School Prom will be held this Saturday, May8th, at the CCHS gymnasium. This years theme is "Who Are You?"
The public is welcome to view the prom setting on Saturday between noon and 1p.m.
The crowning of the king and queen will take place at 11:30p.m. and this is also open to the public.
